Arsenal are interested in hijacking Everton’s move to sign FC Barcelona winger Malcom this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Gunners are trying to persuade Malcom to delay a move to Goodison Park while they negotiate with the Spanish club.
According to the same article, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has identified Malcom as an alternative to one of their top targets Wilfried Zaha this summer.
Despite Arsenal’s late interest, it is claimed that Everton are “confident” of sealing a deal for the Brazilian in the coming days.
The same story says that Emery has all but given up hope of Arsenal landing Zaha this summer after their £40m bid was rejected by Crystal Palace.
As has been reported elsewhere, Arsenal are thought to have a limited transfer budget this summer, and so they will try and seal a deal for Malcom with staggered payments, according to the article.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder scored one goal and made two assists in 15 La Liga games for FC Barcelona last season, although he only started six of those.
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League and without a trophy last term in Emery’s first campaign in charge.
